Brand Development & Rebrand Case Study
Brand Strategy & Development
The brand was intentionally positioned around a single clear truth:
“The Creator is the Original Artist.”
Overview
Original Artist began as a pioneering original-music entertainment platform created to elevate songwriter-performers competing with their own copyrighted material across Rock, Country, Urban, and Latin genres. What started as a local-to-regional television concept evolved into a full brand identity and crowdfunding entertainment ecosystem designed both to launch underdog artists and to generate sustained funding and awareness for the rescue and restoration of child survivors of sex trafficking.
The Challenge
In the mid-2000s, network television and radio were dominated by cover-song and celebrity-driven formats. Independent songwriters had limited pathways to reach mass audiences while retaining ownership of their work. Simultaneously, the emerging social-impact opportunity—linking entertainment engagement directly to anti-trafficking funding—required a brand that could feel both entertainment-forward and mission-driven without diluting either.

Key brand-development moves included…..
Evolving the early “Shooting Star” name and identity (2004) into the sharper, more ownable Original Artist platform (2009).
Establishing the core promise of “Zero Karaoke. All Original.” differentiate from every existing music-competition format.
Building a dual-purpose brand architecture that served both commercial entertainment goals and a transparent charitable mission (awareness + direct funding for rescue and aftercare of trafficked children).
Creating consistent visual and verbal identity elements (logo systems, taglines, genre-specific visual languages, and later app/website infrastructure concepts) that could live across network television, radio partnerships, affiliate websites, and future digital platforms.
Designing a donation-voting mechanic so every consumer interaction simultaneously advanced an artist and contributed to the rescue/restore mission.

Historical Execution & Proof Points (2004–2010)
Multiple Saturday-night primetime pilots aired across NBC, ABC, CW, UPN, and MyNetwork affiliates.
“In head-to-head finales, Original Artist consistently delivered the highest ratings among competing primetime programming in key younger demographics (W12-24, W18-34, P12-34, P18-49).
Secured high-value promotional partnerships, including LOIs from Clear Channel Radio (now iHeartMedia) covering 700+ relevant genre stations and SiriusXM (40+ stations), valued at approximately $3.8 million in promotional barter per season.
Built early digital engagement through the limited tools of the era (primarily MySpace and affiliate Facebook shares) while proving the model could generate both audience and measurable participation.
from a regional production to network development.
About
From 2005 to 2010 we produced multiple Original Artist in regional TV markets, a 12-week music competition and primetime special. In 2009, I signed a letter of intent with 20th Century Fox Television to produce a pilot, with the chance to go to series on Fox in a window that would not compete with American Idol. The project was pulled before the pilot was made. I still list it. It shows the format was ready for a major network.
Portfolio
Original Artist ran as a 12-week series with hundreds of submissions each cycle, a primetime special, strong Southeast ratings, and more than $2.5 million in promotional support from Clear Channel and XM. After that run we reached a letter of intent with 20th Century Fox Television: one pilot on their network, then — if the pilot worked — a season on Fox opposite American Idol’s off-cycle. Development ended before the pilot was produced. I include the LOI because that is how far the show went: from a regional production to network development.
Evolution into a Modern Platform
The historical television success provided the proof of concept for a next-generation digital ecosystem.
The current vision translates those proven ratings and partnership dynamics into:
An app-enabled donation-voting and artist-registry system.
Multi-platform data collection that rewards authentic fan engagement (listens, shares, merchandise, and scaled donations).
A structured 20–26 week competition cycle culminating in live-streamed genre finals and overall winners.
Transparent funding flows that support both entertainment production and non-profit rescue/restore operations.
LOGO revise to highlight four music genres:
Country, Rock, Urban , Latin

Results & Positioning Value
demonstrates the ability to:
Develop a differentiated brand identity from concept through multi-platform execution.
Translate proven local/regional ratings success into scalable national and digital models.
Integrate a serious social mission (child trafficking rescue and restoration) into the core of an entertainment brand without compromising either commercial or impact goals.
Create comprehensive presentation and pitch materials capable of engaging media partners, technology investors, and government/non-profit stakeholders (including collaboration frameworks suitable for agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security).
